FISAT at International Conference at Kurume, Japan

10th International Engineering Symposium at Kurume, Japan - A Journey of Knowledge, Innovation, and Global Collaboration

Faculty members from our department created a significant milestone in research through their active participation in the 10th International Engineering Symposium (IES-2026), held from March 3–5, 2026, at the Kurume Institute of Technology, Japan. The symposium gathered academicians, researchers, and industry professionals to exchange innovative ideas and research findings.

Dr. Kavitha P. E, Professor and Head, and Dr. Jiji Antony, Professor, represented FISAT at the International Symposium. On March 4, 2026, Dr. Kavitha P. E presented a research paper titled “Eco-friendly lightweight beams using GFRP-wrapped recycled plastic laminates in cold-formed steel.” Dr. Jiji Antony presented a paper on “Stamped pavement blocks with iron ore tailings,” showcasing their research work to an international audience.

They also chaired a technical session, demonstrating leadership and expertise in their respective domains. Their contributions highlight the growing global presence of our campus and emphasise the importance of international exposure in advancing research and innovation.

In addition to the academic sessions, a technical visit to a geothermal power plant in Ōita Prefecture on March 5, 2026, provided valuable practical insights into sustainable energy systems. Recognised as a major hub for geothermal energy, Ōita harnesses its volcanic resources to generate 110 MW of renewable electricity. Prior to the plant visit, an expert-led classroom lecture offered foundational knowledge on geothermal energy systems and plant operations, followed by an engaging home theatre presentation featuring informative videos on geothermal technology. This experience illustrated how Japan effectively transforms geologically hazardous conditions, such as volcanic activity, into valuable energy resources through advanced geothermal engineering and efficient resource management practices.

Overall, the symposium and its associated activities created a comprehensive learning experience that broadened perspectives, enhanced technical expertise, and strengthened FISAT’s presence in the international academic community, paving the way for future research collaborations and continued innovation.
