National conference by Institution of Engineers

Conferences are opportunities to gain valuable insights into the latest advancements and trends in their field, expanding their knowledge beyond classroom learning. 

Attending conferences also provides opportunities to network with professionals, researchers, and peers, fostering collaborations and career growth.

Our department always encourages students to attend such opportunities that come their way.

 The first-year B Tech and M Tech students of the department under the mentorship of Dr. Kavitha PE participated in the 39th National Convention of Civil Engineers, organised under the aegis of Civil Engineering Division Board, The Institution of Engineers (India) from 17-18 October 2024 at Kochi.

Collaborating with Industry for Add on Course

Our department has signed an MOU with Kartha’s Academy, in collaboration with Kochuthommen Associates, ranked among the top 10 leading architects in India on November 14, 2024.

This partnership is created to strengthen the industry-academia collaboration, aiming to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. 

As part of this initiative, students will benefit from talks from experts and an add-on course in Architectural Planning. The collaboration will provide students with opportunities to engage in hands-on learning experiences and real-world projects under the guidance of industry experts. 

Bridge builders !!

Congratulations to the students of S1 CEA, the winners of bridge building competition organised by ASME FISAT held on 12 Nov 2024. The team members were Gautham Shankar N.V, Akash Anil, Edwin Jaise, Delnoy M Binoy, Athul Krishna C.A, and Abhinand T S. 

Your creativity, teamwork, and enthusiasm are commendable. This achievement is a testament to your innovation and motivation. Keep reaching new heights!

Congratulations to Mishal Mohammed from the S3 Civil Engineering batch! 

His outstanding performance in the Interzone Tournament has earned him a place on the KTU Table Tennis Men's Team. 

Football champions of KTU!

Our Men's Football Team has clinched the prestigious KTU Interzone Championship held at TKM College of Engineering during the second week of November.

The football cup in the university has always been an intensely fought tournament, with teams competing fiercely for the prestigious title. This time around, our team showcased their skill, teamwork, and determination and won both the D Zone and Intezone Titles. 

There are three representation from our department in the winning team. Aravind (S7 CEA), Vishnu (S5 CEB), and Adnan (S3 CEA) - the department is incredibly proud of your achievement!!

The finals was a repeat of the D Zone final match, held in our new Football Ground, our team beat Illahia Engineering college on home turf. The Interzone match was held at TKM, Kollam.

Volleyball Title!

The FISAT Men's Volleyball Team has reclaimed the prestigious APJAKTU Interzone Volleyball Championship title, showcasing their unwavering excellence. 

The department proudly recognizes the exceptional efforts of Shemin Majeed (S3 SECM) and Akshay J P (S1 SECM) in making this victory possible!

In the journey to the Interzone matches, the team secured first runner up position in the D zone. The team scored 3-1 in the  thrilling finals against Muthoot Engineering College showcasing an incredible performance and well deserved victory!

AISAT-GRACE Award for the best BTech Project in Civil Engineering

The final year students of 2020-23 batch, Abu Faiz M H, Adal Babu, Gouri R Krishna, and Ashish Varghese, guided by Ms Preethi M, AP, CE won the second position in the AISAT-GRACE Award for the best BTech Project in Civil Engineering for their project titled “An investigation on role of redmud in improving concrete durability against corrosion and chloride intrusion”.  It was a proud moment for the department to see our students achieve this honour. The award ceremony was held on 2nd November 2024 at Sree Gokulam Convention Centre, Kochi. 

The ceremony was held as part of  the 13th Praphulla Kumar Annual Lecture jointly organised by Indian Geotechnical Society (IGS) - Kochi Chapter and Association of Piling Specialists(aps), Kochi. 

After an inspirational inauguration of the event, the title lecture was delivered by Dr. G L Sivakumar Babu, Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru. He spoke about the influence of climate change on embankments and hydrological structures and the increased demand it is placing on our outdated systems. The need for adopting latest technologies in design and the possibility of innovation in measurement systems was emphasised by him. He urged the young generation of engineers to take the lead in these opportunities of the future. 

It was after the invited lecture that the IGS-AISAT award for best MTech in Geotechnical Engineering in Kerala and the AISAT-GRACE Award for the best BTech Project in Civil Engineering were announced.

We also ran into our alumni Mr. Vishal Krishna who is working professional now. It was truly a fruitful meeting with a mix of alumni, students and faculty. Hope that more such happy run-ins happen in upcoming events!
