Core Placements in Civil Engineering!!

The department of Civil Engineering strive to follow the motto of our campus, “Focus on Excellence” the campus placements record this year reaffirmed this. With new initiatives, campus placements in the department found a new direction, especially in the core domain. The department recorded a total of 77 offers as on today, an all time record!!!

The journey is not over yet, but we are so excited to share the achievement of students!!

After the first few slots of IT recruitments, the core opportunities this year started out with ICICI Bank offering job roles as Mortgage value officers, RDC Concrete offering roles as Engineering Trainee and J&J Sourcing LLP offering the roles of sourcing engineers. While ICICI picked 7, RDC picked 2 and J&J picked one candidate. The mean package stood at 4LPA. Federal bank selected 5 candidates and Shriram Finance selected 2 candidates as well. The number of offers in IT included TCS (3 offers), Cognizant (8 offers) and Code Young (1 offer). In the BPO sector, Sutherland made 29 offers.

The department, with the guidance of Dr. Jiji Antony, Head of Department, found a new direction to improve the core placements this year. The idea was to enhance the employability of students through add on programs and bringing in job opportunities linked to it.

The department offered three add on programs - focused on BIM (Building Information Modelling), Water Proofing and Prefab. The add on programs provided quality training, hands-on experience and real time internships for students, one of the prerequisites for students to get direct access to quality, high paying jobs in the Civil Engineering sector.

BIMLabs focussed on training interested students in software like Revit, BIM360 and Project Management tools over a span of 5 months with real world internships to improve their skills in the software. The add on sessions focussed on preparing students to be the best BIM Modellers in the industry. SIWIN on the other hand with a long standing reputation on waterproofing solutions, hand picked students, trained and gave hands on experience in that domain. The program lasted a span of five months and added value to the students.

Though it was tough task to find time and coordinate the courses due to the tight academic schedule, it was managed well by Ms. Rinu J Achison, Add on Courses coordinator of the department. Finally,  in June, as the course was nearing completion, both agencies started the placement process.

The placement process of SIWIN started off with four students getting offered in Astral Adhesives with a premium package of 8 LPA - the highest package in the Civil Engineering thus far. This was followed 16 offers in Multi National Companies like NEROLAC (2 offers), Chryso Saint Gobain (6 offers), Nina Percept,  a Subsidiary of Pidilite Industries (4 offers) and TIKIDAN (4 offers) with a package of 4 LPA.

The placement process of BIM Labs, Dalmia Cements, Strutex, CAAD International and a few others are underway and the department is optimistic that all students who were able to complete the add on programs will be able to secure a job from campus itself.

Kudos to all the offered candidates and the very best to the ones who are in process!!!
