Merry Christmas 🎁🎄🧑‍🎄🎉

Christmas is for joy, forgiveness and sharing, for coming together with friends and dear ones. It reminds us how fortunate we are to have friends and family who love us.

Our Christmas celebrations were at its zenith and crossed all expectations this year, as usual. Everyone, the students and faculty were excited and full of enthusiasm for the celebrations. The red adorned staff seemed to be in one mind and heart and cooperated with the bond of togetherness. As everyone joined, the Christmas theme choconut cake was cut by the Head of Department, Dr. Jiji Antony.

The rhythmic dance by students to the tunes of Matadoria band added delight to the party. Everyone was spell bound with the celebrations. Gifts were exchanged as a surprise, it was indeed a day of happiness, joy and oneness. Yet another day to remember for the faculty and the students of the Department.

Wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!

Water Metro - First Experience!!

It was an unexpected opportunity that knocked my door - ‘A visit to Kochi Water Metro’. Water Metro is the next big thing Kochi is waiting for. It indents to connect 10 islands along a network of routes with a fleet of electrically propelled hybrid ferries. Water metro is expected to be modern, energy efficient and environment friendly mode of transportation for the city.

The visit was conducted under the aegis of the Institution of Engineers Kochi Chapter for a selected few on 21 Dec 2022. Six students along with two faculty members, Dr, Kavitha and Ms. Neeraja were part of the team. There were members from other institutions as well for the ride. The journey started from the high court station. All of us reached the high court and walked through the beautiful walkway on Marine drive leading to the water metro hub. The station has the same styling of metro rail. The shades reminds us of the all too familiar metro rail.

A small wait and we got our first experience in water metro. The boat is fully air conditioned and comfy - add to it, the first ride was free for us. The seats were so good and the water metro was clean. As it started to move, the engineers explained about the working, construction and specialities of water metro. Many asked queries about its working.

We all enjoyed by making our own jokes and talked soo long. The boat reached Vypin terminal spent a few minutes there and headed back to high court terminal, the place were we started our journey. As we reached back, the authorities thanked us for the visit, gave us some refreshments. Our teachers never forget to give us treats, they gave us a good time too. Everyone returned from there with a great experience and witnessing the beautiful construction ‘Water Metro’.

Water transport in a more updated and affordable way is what the metro is trying to achieve - of course, in a sustainable manner. We all enjoyed the ride and the day turned out to be memorable.

Aarambham - the freshers day

Our department celebrated Aarambham, an event to welcome fresher students of 2022 on Wednesday, 30 November during the post lunch session.

The program kicked off in the department seminar hall and was shifted to the auditorium to host the cultural events. The purpose of this gathering was to welcome new students in a friendly atmosphere and to encourage their creative impulses and boost their confidence. All first year students of the department assembled to celebrate the day. It was also intended to make each one of them feel connected to FISAT and the department of Civil Engineering and prepare them to take on the challenges of the years ahead. The program was inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.) Jiji Antony, head of the department. The teachers did not forget to spend time and motivate the students.

Freshers got chance to showcase their talent, there were stunning performances like solo song, group song, and group dances. Small games were organized to make the function more tricky and fun! Everyone enjoyed the cultural activities as they all were amazing! The event concluded by 4 PM with vote of thanks by the student representative.

All participants present in this program were happy and motivated. It was indeed a memorable day.
