The department achieved yet another milestone by entering into an International MoU with University of Malaysia Al-Sultan Abdullah, Pahang, Malaysia on 7 December 2023. The objective of the MoU is to to promote International Academic and Research cooperation in the areas of organisation of joint symposia, online courses to students, Research collaboration in terms of joint grant application and mutual involvement of human and technical resources, Institutional exchanges between students and staff from each partner institution.

Dr. Jiji Antony, Professor & Head, Dr. Kavitha P E, Associate Professor and Mr. Pauly P K, Technical Staff, visited the University at Pahang during  7 & 8 December 2023 for the exchange of MoU and to have a technical discussion on the possible areas  of collaboration and experience the research and laboratory facilities available at the University.

The team from FISAT also visited the Civil Engineering related UG/PG labs and the central lab facilities of the University. It was interesting to note that the lab experiments at the university are conducted as per ASTM standards and are similar to the tests conducted at our campus. The centralised lab facilities particularly for PG and research scholars at the university includes advanced material testing facilities like SEM, Xray Diffraction, Vacuum Storage and testing of chemicals, Advanced Computerised Testing facilities etc.

The team had a meeting with the Indian students, research scholars and staff members at the University. A detailed discussion about possible area collaboration was conducted and the possibility to take forward the association activities related to sustainability in association with IGBC chapter of FISAT was discussed.

The department looks forward to a fruitful collaboration with the UMPSA, Malaysia.

Civil House - Thank you Aakash K Sambasivan!

After a small gap, the department hosted Civil House, the online interactions with the Alumni on 1 December 2023.

This time it was Aakash K Sambasivan from the 2013-17 batch. Aakash is current is working as senior design engineer at Larsen & Toubro (L&T) energy hydrocarbons, Chennai.

During the session, Aakash shared his experience and journey towards becoming the senior design engineer. For him, the BTech project was a great inspiration. After graduating, Aakash worked for some time as a junior design engineer at Naval base, Kochi. There, he had challenging assignment working with senior officers of the navy. This has helped him to improve his skills quite a lot.

He had so much to share and reminisce, and also several thoughts about the speaker were shared by the faculty members. Students were having several doubts on the field they were stepping on to - How, when and where to begin. Aakash addressed those with patience.

Many who attended the session expressed their desire to choose his current path. Around 9PM, we thankfully ended the session with a vote of thanks.

Even in his busy schedule, Aakash managed to attend the online meet and the department owes a big thanks to Aakash, our proud Alumni.

Thank you Aakash!
