FISAT T!

Discover FISAT T - the latest hotspot on our campus! This charming bamboo hut tea shop and juice counter is newly set up just beside the canteen on the scenic lawn.

This new addition has become a refreshing escape and a vibrant new vibe. New stone pathways and stone benches are being laid adding to the beauty of the space. The primary idea behind setting up FISAT T is moving the juice counter near the ATM.

The refreshed menu at FISAT T now includes tea, coffee, and a variety of snacks, in addition to the ice creams and shakes.

Welcome to the new happening place on our campus!

FISAT at ISCI 2025, Kagoshima University, Japan

Four faculty members from our campus had the opportunity to participate in the International Symposium on Collaborative Informatics (ISCI 2025), held from 5th to 7th March 2025 at Kagoshima University, Japan. The symposium was co-organised by the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal, with Prof. Katta Venkatramana and Dr. Raviraj H M serving as the convenors from India. The event convened researchers and professionals from across the globe, featuring representation from countries including Japan, India, South Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia, and the United States.

Among the international delegates was Dr. K. Colton Flynn, Research Soil Scientist at the USDA-ARS Grassland Soil and Water Research Laboratory, whose participation further enriched the global outlook of the event. With over 50 technical papers presented across eight thematic sessions and eleven keynote lectures, the symposium served as a platform for rich academic exchange in the areas of collaborative technologies and interdisciplinary research in informatics and engineering.
From FISAT, the participating faculty included Dr. Unni Kartha G (Dean Academics and Professor, Department of Civil Engineering), Dr. Parvathy R (Professor, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering), Dr. Sumayya Naznin P H, and Ms. Neeraja Nair (Assistant Professors, Department of Civil Engineering). The team contributed two research papers, both of which were presented on 6th March. The paper titled “Seismic Data Extraction from Earthquake Videos: An AI Driven Approach” by Neeraja N, Unni Kartha G, and Parvathy R was presented in Technical Session T3, while “Study on Parking Demand and its Characteristics using Structural Equation Modelling” by Sumayya Naznin P H, Anila Cyril (Scientist B, National Transport Planning and Research Centre), and Abhirami V (FISAT alumnus) was presented in Technical Session T4. In addition to paper presentations, FISAT faculty also played key roles in chairing sessions—Dr. Unni Kartha G co-chaired Technical Session T1 alongside Prof. Nakul Ramanna Sanjeevaiah, and Dr. Parvathy R co-chaired Technical Session T5 with Dr. Takashi Kawakami.

The symposium programme also included field visits, notably to an ongoing tunnel construction site, and an excursion to the Sakurajima volcano, which offered valuable exposure to Japanese infrastructure practices and geological insights. Participants were also taken on a tour of the campus and research laboratories, and warmly welcomed with a symposium dinner and cultural reception. The event provided an excellent opportunity for knowledge sharing, networking, and cross-cultural learning. FISAT’s participation in ISCI 2025 was a significant step towards strengthening global academic collaborations and reaffirmed the institution’s continued commitment to research-led education and multidisciplinary engagement.

Workshop on Revit

Our Department,  in association with ISTE FISAT chapter successfully conducted a three-day workshop on Revit. The workshop was held on the 5th, 7th, and 10th of March 2025, and was attended by 70 students from the sixth semester of the B.Tech Civil Engineering. The workshop was held in the advanced computing lab of the department.
The event was inaugurated by the Head of the Department Dr. Jiji Antony, who emphasized the significance of staying updated with the latest industry trends and technological advancements. In her address, she highlighted how proficiency in cutting-edge software like Autodesk Revit could enhance students' career prospects and improve their understanding of architectural modeling and Building Information Modeling (BIM).

The workshop commenced with an introductory session on 3D modeling and Building Information Modeling (BIM). Dr. Asha Joseph, Associate Professor - the resource person, explained how BIM differs from traditional 2D and 3D drafting techniques. She provided an insightful comparison between REVIT and other drawing software like AutoCAD, Sketchup and 3Ds Max.

The three-day workshop focused on providing hands-on training in architectural modeling of residential house using Autodesk Revit. The students were introduced to various features of Revit and its applications in real-world construction and design projects.

Ms. Sowmya V. Krishnankutty, Assistant Professor (Spl. Grade), and Mr. Abhijith R., Assistant Professor, were the other resource persons of the workshop. They actively assisted in the hands-on sessions, guiding students through the modeling process.

The fundamentals of Revit and its role in streamlining design processes through parametric modeling were explained. Students engaged in hands-on training in architectural modeling. They learned how to create floor plans, elevations, sections, and 3D views using Revit. The session also included practical exercises in adding building components, defining materials, and customizing design elements to create realistic residential house models.

The workshop provided an excellent platform for students to gain hands-on experience with Autodesk REVIT and understand its applications in modern architectural design. By the end of the three days, participants were well-acquainted with the software’s capabilities and its impact on the industry. The event was a great success, leaving students equipped with valuable skills that will aid them in their academic and professional journeys.
