It was a proud moment when a team of students - Mr. Albin Wilson, Ms. Ankita Kalyani, Ms. Arya Sabu, and Ms. Gouri Nandhana S. Pradeesh - under the leadership of Ms. Neeraja Nair, Assistant Professor, was invited to a seminar held on 18 May 2025 as part of International Museum Day, hosted by the Ernakulam District Heritage Museum. This recognition was the outcome of their final year project titled “Assessment and Condition Mapping of Ernakulam Heritage Museum.”
The seminar, “Thematic Museums and Local Community: Analysis in the Context of EKM District Heritage Museum,”was organised at Bastion Bungalow, Fort Kochi - the very location of the Ernakulam District Heritage Museum. The event was aligned with the global theme announced by the International Council of Museums (ICOM): “The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Communities.”The team from FISAT was a key invitee and participated by presenting the findings of their project. These students belong to the 2021–2025 Civil Engineering batch.
During the seminar, the students explained briefly on how modern tools like Total Station, EDM, LiDAR scans, GPR scans can benefit in documentation and conservation efforts of heritage structures. GPR scans are a useful tool in validating claims and reclaiming lost data. The team put forth their findings and how they are significant to Kochi.
The chief guest, Adv. Antony Kureethara, Opposition Leader of Kochi Municipality, and Mrs. Klincy Francis, Officer-in-Charge, EKM DHM, applauded the team’s efforts in highlighting the significance of Kochi’s history through this commendable project.
We are honoured and grateful to have been part of this event and deeply appreciate everyone who supported this initiative. Congratulations to the team for making this a truly memorable experience!
