Happy, Merry and Fulfilled the New Year Resolution!!

This day, exactly one a year back, December 31,  2020, we started this blog. When the first post was published, it was a new year resolution, to keep this blog live, to keep you all connected throughout the year. Though determined, I was not sure if this promise can be kept, 'cause we all know the fate of many new year resolutions. When I look back now, there is a sense of contentment. It was not very difficult though. Many people joined, contributed and made sure that the blog is live. Many thanks to all those who have contributed and helped to keep this blog live. We have also tried a couple of things - to create a google group with all of you alumni in it and updating whenever a new post is published. The idea was to update the people who have not subscribed, through email.
Hope that helped.

We have travelled one long year from the first post, a year of revival, getting back to normal life. Looking back, so many things have happened and this blog has tried to catch the best moments out of it. Hope you too have enjoyed this journey. As on today, the views are just shy of 5000, the number of subscribers, 8. The last post was about Christmas celebration by Gokul Ajith, made a couple of days back.
Though this post looks a bit like boasting, it is also to get a feedback from you. Feel free to share you comments, suggestions, about the articles in the blog and what you expect in the coming year. You can either post it as a comment, below this post, or send an email to civil@fisat.ac.in It will be a great motivation to hear from you.

Your feedback will surely help in improving the contents of this platform and make it better and connect to each and every one who have been a part of the department. If you have not subscribed the blog, use the blue "Follow" button to subscribe it.

Wish you all a Very Happy New Year!!

Merry Christmas 🎄🎅!!

Colleges across the nation were coming back to life with all the academic buzz and celebrations being held in full throttle. Christmas was a lost feeling when covid came to action and it was after a long time that students felt the spirit of this year's ending celebration. The Department of Civil Engineering held the X'mas celebration on 23rd December 2021, with third years hosting it in the department seminar hall. The day saw outfits of red, white and combinations of both complementing  the vibe. The hall was occupied by first, second and third years and I had the honour of hosting the event 😁. The event saw performances from students of all the years ranging from group dance to group song and to senior-junior interactions.

Christmas can never be imagined without a cake but the default one is usually ‘Plum’ for which there are very few takers. So the cake for the day was a big, delicious ‘Vancho cake’ which everyone pounced upon soon after it was officially cut. Santa and the Dept HOD Dr. Jiji Antony cut the cake and everyone took their share of the delicacy.

Teachers and students equally came forward and entertained the crowd, meanwhile students simply forgot all the inhibitions they had to simply dance and sing the day off. When most programs were getting over, the host sneaked out to get a change of outfit to take the role of ‘Santa’ and came back in to really bring back the Xmas frenzy. Students swarmed in to take pictures and dance along with the santa. The program came to an end when everyone came forward to sing and dance carol songs.

Merry Christmas Everyone!! 🎄🎅🌠

Civil House - Abhishek

Today marked the start of the Series 2 of "Civil House", the alumni interaction series of the department which was started back in June 2021. The enthusiasm of alumni to volunteer in the program has made the series 2 materialise. Mr. Abhisek Nair V of the 2013 graduating batch was the guest today. He is currently working in the Directorate of Lighthouses and Lightships as an Engineer. Abhishek shared his session by talking about his career path and how he was able to get into the job he is currently in.

He urged the participants to keep looking for the job opportunities which are published in the employment news and also websites of big construction and consulting companies. A large number of openings are announced every day. There are a large number of opportunities available in the government sector as well and one must be prepared for the test process and grab those opportunities.  It takes a consistent effort to get into the job which one seek. He also talked about the opportunities in defence and how to apply for it. Abhishek patiently replied to the queries posed by the students and gave suggestions about the subjects that one can concentrate on, how to prepare and apply for jobs.

It was great to have you back in campus, Abhishek. Thank you for your time!!!
