ASCE student chapter was stuck in dust for a while riddled throughout semester six for various reasons. A new semester kindled hope for conducting activities yet again and the long awaited SOS visit finally took shape. On October 8th 2022 the community service wing of the ASCE student chapter made a visit to SOS children’s village in Aluva. We went with around 24 students and was accompanied by Abin sir and Abhiya ma’am. Going there by college bus, most of us remained silent just mingling with the close knit groups only. The bus was relatively silent and in like 40 minutes we reached our destination.
The village was having the rustic feel and the village was constructed in an interesting manner with the main hall and building at a greater elevation than the entrance. The hilly terrain is maintained and the village is set amidst the greenery. The village brims with birds chirp and children’s voice.
We got there and got an instant guide to the whole place, a small kid who was full of surprise, trouble and energy. He became very generous and plucked fruits for us from the tall tree, climbing with ease, and all of us looking in surprise. The program started by around 2pm and then we all were just forgetting everything and enjoying all the talent displays from their side. Our students also had a bunch of memorable events, but the talent pool on their side was unparalleled. The events went on till the entire planned time.
The program came to an end with Sreekanth’s(S7 CEB) violin solo performance which brought down the curtains to a wonderful day. The most happiest person in the room was Haleema Nusrin who’s strong desire was this visit to happen and when it finally took place the day became an unforgettable one.
There was only a few hours of interaction and events with those kids, but the connection we felt them reflected on the painful bye we all had to waive while leaving. Beyond the monetary support we gave them it’s the love that we gave them that mattered and counts. ASCE just got blessed!
