Thank you, Saikiran!

Our next season of Civil House for this academic year has resumed. H. Saikiran, an alumnus of the 2022 batch visited our campus on 13th of this month and he interacted with our students for nearly an hour.  Saikiran shared his professional journey after graduation, discussing his experience in the construction industry before pursuing higher studies in Construction Management.

He spoke about the responsibilities of a Site Engineer and emphasized the importance of gaining practical field experience during the early years of a civil engineering career. He encouraged students to develop technical knowledge, communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and leadership qualities through on-site work.

An inspiring highlight of the session was his presentation on the patent he developed during his B.Tech at our campus. He explained how this achievement strengthened his profile during recruitment and encouraged students to participate in innovation, and technical competitions to build a strong professional portfolio.

The session concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, where students clarified their doubts regarding career planning, higher education, and opportunities in the construction industry. The motivated students to focus on practical skills, innovation, and continuous learning, reinforcing the importance of industry exposure in building a successful civil engineering career.

We look forward to more such session from our Alumni this year.

Thank you Saikiran, we really appreciate your time!

The tower challenge!

The Tower Challenge, organized by our department association, ACE, on 7 July 2026, provided students with an exciting opportunity to apply engineering principles through a hands-on structural design competition.

The event challenged participants to design and construct the tallest and strongest tower using only matchsticks and glue. Working in teams of up to five members, students showcased their creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities while exploring concepts such as structural stability, load distribution, bracing, and material efficiency.

The competition encouraged participants to transform simple materials into innovative and resilient structures, demonstrating the practical application of civil engineering fundamentals.

A cash prize was awarded to the winning team from S3, comprising of Jiya George, Athulya Jose, Fathima Sidhik and Joanna Mariam Jimson. Congratulations winners!

Mix Design Concepts - Technical Session

Our Department, in association with the ICI Student Chapter and the Association of Civil Engineers (ACE) organized a technical session on “Mix Design Concepts” for the fifth semester students on 1st and 2nd July 2026. The objective was to to enhance students’ understanding of concrete mix design principles and practices. The session was led by Er. Shyju Nair, CEO of DH Academy and Secretary of ICI Kochi Centre, an expert in the field of concrete technology.

The session provided insights into the fundamentals of concrete mix design, design approaches, key parameters influencing mix proportioning, and relevant standards and best practices followed in the construction industry. Through practical examples and real-world applications, the resource person highlighted the importance of proper mix design in achieving strength, durability, economy, and sustainability in concrete structures.

The programme served as an excellent platform for bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and industry requirements.
Students actively participated in the interactive discussion and Q&A session and concluded with positive feedback from participants.
