Kaydenz 2026 – BIM and Engineering Career Summit

Dr. Asha Joseph, Professor from our department served as a panelist in Kaydenz 2026 – BIM and Engineering Summit, jointly organized by Kaydenz, Dubai and BIM International held at Lulu Marriott Hotel on 22 June 2026.

Kaydenz is a premier Autodesk Authorized Training Center and KHDA accredited academy located in Dubai. Kaydenz specializes in professional Building Information Modeling (BIM) education and career development.  The event brought together final year and pre final year students of Civil Engineering and Architecture, academicians, and industry professionals to explore the expanding role of BIM  in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry.

The summit featured three technical sessions and a panel discussion. The first technical session was handled by Mr. Midhun Das, Founder and BIM Consultant of BIM Channel, who discussed career opportunities in the BIM ecosystem and the skills required for BIM-enabled projects. Mr. Jayson Pasano, Head of BIM & Technical Operations at RMJM Dubai, led the second session on the “Pillars of BIM Success – People, Process, and Platform,” emphasizing the importance of collaboration and structured workflows alongside technology. The third session by Mr. Nigel Varghese, BIM Professional, UAE, focused on BIM applications in infrastructure projects and showcased real-world implementation examples.

The panel discussion, which included Dr. Asha Joseph, featured distinguished academicians and industry experts, including Dr. Syed Jalaudheen Shah, Professor and Head, Dept. of Civil Engg., MES College of Engineering, Kuttipuram; Prof. John Kuruvila, Professor, SCM School of Architecture; Prof. Shiraz C. M., Professor, School of Architecture, MES College of Engineering, Kuttipuram; Mr. Midhun Das, and Mr. Nigel Varghese. Together, they shared valuable insights on bridging the gap between academia and industry and preparing students for the evolving demands of the construction sector. Moderated by Ms. Sravana T. N., the discussion emphasized industry-academia collaboration, curriculum enhancement, practical skill development, and exposure to real-world BIM practices. The interactive session provided students with valuable insights into career readiness and emerging opportunities in the AEC sector.

The summit served as a platform for knowledge sharing, professional networking, and industry engagement. Approximately 150 Civil Engineering and Architecture students from over 20 institutions participated. Three B.Tech students, Murshid Ali P.K., Vivek Bennyson, Amina Farhath N.A. also attended the event.

FDP on Digital Technologies in Civil Engineering

Our department conducted a 6-Day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “Digital Technologies for Civil Engineering Applications” from 15–20 June 2026. The programme brought together faculty members, researchers, and postgraduate students for an engaging week of learning, hands-on practice, and knowledge sharing.  A special highlight of the FDP was the session by Dr. Anandh K. S. from SRMIST on the PRISMA Framework for Systematic Review and Research Analysis. The session provided valuable insights into conducting structured literature reviews and improving the quality of research publications. For all other sessions we utilised our own faculty as resources for the FDP.

The FDP began with a session on Data Analysis using AI Tools, led by Dr. Kavitha P. E., where participants explored how artificial intelligence can be used to analyse engineering data, generate insights, and support decision-making in research and practice. This was followed by a session on AI Tools for Teaching and Learning by Ms. Reshma Prasad, introducing participants to innovative AI-powered platforms that can enhance classroom engagement, content creation, assessment, and academic productivity.

The second day focused on QGIS for Civil Engineering Applications, conducted by Ms. Rajalakshmi T. R. The session introduced participants to the fundamentals of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and was followed by hands-on training in terrain analysis using QGIS, covering DEM processing, contour generation, slope and aspect mapping, hillshade creation, and other geospatial techniques widely used in civil engineering planning and analysis.

On Day 3, Dr. Asha Joseph guided participants through the fundamentals of Building Information Modelling (BIM) using Revit. The session demonstrated how digital building models can improve planning, visualization, coordination, and project management. Participants also engaged in a hands-on exercise where they developed basic building models and explored key BIM workflows used in the construction industry.

The fourth day featured EPANET for Water Distribution Network Analysis, handled by Dr. Nishida A. Participants gained practical experience in modelling and analysing water supply networks, an essential skill for environmental and water resources engineers.Through hands-on exercises, they learned to create network layouts, assign hydraulic parameters, run simulations, and interpret results for efficient water distribution system design.

The final day was dedicated to the completion and submission of mini-projects, allowing participants to apply the concepts and tools learned throughout the FDP. The project presentations highlighted their creativity, enthusiasm, and ability to leverage digital technologies to address practical civil engineering challenges.

The programme successfully blended theory with hands-on learning, giving participants exposure to some of the most relevant digital tools used in modern civil engineering. The active participation, engaging discussions, and collaborative learning environment made the FDP a rewarding experience for everyone involved.

SECON26

SECON’26, the seventh edition of the International Conference on Structural Engineering and Construction Management brought together researchers, academicians, industry professionals, and students from across the globe to discuss emerging trends and innovations in civil engineering. Centered on the theme “Cognitive Engineering: Shaping a Net-Positive and Resilient Built Environment,” the conference highlighted the transformative role of artificial intelligence, digital technologies, sustainable materials, and smart infrastructure in addressing contemporary engineering challenges.

The conference was inaugurated by Dr. Shuichi Torii, Special Professor, Department of

Mechanical Systems Engineering, Kurume Institute of Technology, Japan and Dr. Katta Vakataramana, AICTE Distinguished Professional and Retired Professor of Civil Engineering, NITK Surathkal, India. The conference received 423 abstracts , of which 260 were accepted for full paper submission. After a  comprehensive review by a panel of 100+ reviewers, 130 papers were shortlisted for presentation and publication by Scopus indexed Lecture notes in Civil Engineering. 121 papers were presented in the conference from 3rd to 5th June 2026 by authors from premier institutes across the country and more than 10 countries.

The conference provided a dynamic platform for knowledge exchange through keynote addresses, and research presentations spanning areas such as digital twins, smart cities, autonomous construction systems, sustainable infrastructure, advanced materials, geospatial intelligence, and climate-resilient design. Participants had the opportunity to share innovative research, foster interdisciplinary collaborations, and explore solutions that contribute to a more sustainable and resilient built environment.

Building on a legacy that began in 2017, SECON has evolved into a recognised international forum for advancing research and professional practice in structural engineering and construction management. SECON’26 continued this tradition by promoting academic excellence, industry engagement, and global collaboration, reaffirming FISAT’s commitment to fostering innovation and shaping the future of civil engineering.
