M.Tech students @ IGBC Headquarters

 4 days, countless memories

From the royal charm of Charminar & Chowmahalla Palace  to the serenity of Hussain Sagar ,from insightful learning at IGBC to the cinematic magic of Ramoji Film City —every moment was unforgettable!

The students of S1 SECM visited the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) headquarters at Hyderabd as part of the activities of IGBC Student chapter at FISAT. The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) is part of the Confederation of Indian Industry and promotes sustainable construction practices in India. It develops green building rating systems and certifies projects that meet standards for energy efficiency, water conservation, and environmental performance. The visit helped the students understand the importance of sustainable construction practices. They were introduced to the methods in which energy efficiency was implemented in the IGBC headquarters building and the relevance of achieving this.

Hyderabad welcomed us with a perfect blend of history and hospitality. After enjoying a flavorful lunch at Bawarchi Restaurant, we stepped into the city’s rich past. The grandeur of Chowmahalla Palace reflected the legacy of the Nizams, while the iconic Charminar and the serene Makkah Masjid offered a glimpse into Hyderabad’s cultural and architectural brilliance.

The evening buzzed with shopping around Charminar, followed by a satisfying dinner, setting the tone for an exciting trip ahead. The modern side of Hyderabad unfolded at IKEA Hyderabad, showcasing innovation in design and lifestyle. A peaceful visit to Birla Mandir was followed by an engaging session at Birla Planetarium. As evening approached, we relaxed at Lumbini Park and enjoyed the scenic beauty of Hussain Sagar Lake, with the illuminated Buddha statue creating a memorable view.

The highlight of the trip was a full-day visit to Ramoji Film City, where we experienced the magic of cinema through live shows, film sets, and entertainment activities. The final day offered a refreshing visit to Nehru Zoological Park, allowing us to connect with nature before concluding the journey. A hearty lunch and drop back at Secunderabad Railway Station marked the end of a well-balanced trip that beautifully combined heritage, knowledge, entertainment, and relaxation—leaving us with lasting memories of Hyderabad.

Industry Connect - Advenser

A team of three faculty members and six third year B.Tech students from our department visited Advenser Academy at Infopark, Kochi and Advenser Engineering Services Pvt. Ltd. at Cochin Export Processing Zone on 30th March 2026. The visit aimed to expose students and faculty members to real-world applications of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and industry practices.

As the team arrived, Harikrishnan K, Director, Advenser provided insights into the organisation’s vision, global presence, and its contributions to engineering design and BIM services. This was followed by a detailed session by Ashwin S. Nair, General Manager, who elaborated on the training programs offered by the academy, emphasizing the growing demand for skilled BIM professionals in the industry.

Further interactions were held with Leny Vijayan, Business Unit Manager (Architecture), and Manoj Mohan, Business Unit Manager (MEP), who explained the execution of real-time projects using advanced software tools such as Revit Architecture, MEP, Recap, and Tekla. The discussions highlighted how these tools are integrated into project workflows to enhance accuracy, collaboration, and efficiency. Santhosh Dominic, Assistant General Manager (HR & Operations), provided valuable information regarding internship opportunities, live project involvement, and pathways for students to be absorbed into ongoing projects. These insights were particularly beneficial for students aspiring to build careers in BIM and allied domains.

The visit also included interaction sessions with staff members at both locations, offering a closer look at the working environment. The organisation has around 350 employees, with more than 250 professionals actively engaged in projects at the CEZS office, showcasing the scale and capacity of operations.

The sessions gave the participants a deeper understanding of industry expectations and the importance of practical training. The emphasis on skill development and industry readiness reinforced the need for continuous learning beyond the classroom.

Overall, the visit was highly informative and inspiring, bridging the gap between academic knowledge and professional practice, and motivating students to pursue careers in the rapidly evolving field of BIM. The visit was attended by faculty members Dr. Kavitha P.E. (Professor & HOD), Dr. Asha Joseph (Professor), and Ms. Rinu J. Achison (Assistant Professor, Senior Grade).

EcoSwap

Today, April 1, 2026, the IGBC Student Chapter of our Civil Department organised Ecoswap—an eco-friendly initiative that marked the department’s first-ever effort in conducting such a sustainability-focused program.

What began as a simple idea - bring a plant and exchange it - evolved into a meaningful and engaging experience for everyone involved. The event brought together students and faculty members, all united by a shared interest in promoting greener lifestyles.

Participants arrived with a wide variety of plants, including ornamental, medicinal, and indoor species. Each exchange was more than just a swap; it was a sharing of smiles, care tips, and stories connected to the plants.

As a first-time initiative, Ecoswap successfully highlighted the importance of sustainable practices and environmental responsibility. It also emphasised how small individual actions can collectively contribute to a healthier environment.

Ecoswap 2026 stands as a promising beginning - an initiative that planted not just saplings, but also the commitment to sustainability.

Don't miss this video and the smiles in it!

Laurels!

Guess what is special about this group!

This photo features the students who secured an SGPA greater than 8 and an S grade in the recently announced University examinations!

For the first time in the department, we organised Laurel, today, 01 April 2026, a small event to encourage these students. Each of them was recognised and presented with a pen as a small gift for their academic success.

Though the gift was small, their achievement was significant, and it was a great motivation for them.
