Exploring the World of Quantity Surveying - Invited Talk by Shafeer P P

The Department of Civil Engineering, in collaboration with the Association of Civil Engineers (ACE) and the ASCE Student Chapter, hosted an invited talk on "Opportunities In Quantity Surveying"  on 26 Feb 2024. This event was organised in association with Entry App and Carbon Blue Global (CBG) and aimed to illuminate the pivotal role of quantity surveyors in the construction industry. The talk was titled  Exploring the World of Quantity Surveying: A Glimpse into the Future of Construction. 

The session featured Mr. Shafeer P P, Senior Manager - Commercial at Red Sea Global and Director of CBG, who brought his wealth of knowledge to the fore. Mr. Shafeer delved into the essential role of quantity surveyors in cost management and efficiency enhancement throughout the construction process.

Mr. Shafeer's talk provided a deep dive into the responsibilities of clients, consultants, and contractors, emphasizing the importance of industry standards like POMI, CEMM7, and FIDIC. He also dissected the pre-contract and post-contract phases, shedding light on the complexities and the crucial role of institutions like RICS in nurturing future quantity surveyors. This event not only provided insights into quantity surveying but also showcased the collaborative spirit of educational institutions and industry leaders in fostering a new generation of skilled professionals. 



As we look towards a future where construction is ever-evolving, the role of quantity surveyors becomes increasingly significant, making events like these a beacon for aspiring engineers, remarked Mr. Shaffer.

The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Nandana S, S8 CE, and a certificate of appreciation was presented to Mr. Shafeer by Mr. Sreerath S, Assistant Professor at FISAT. Attendees left the event with a richer understanding of quantity surveying, inspired by the vast opportunities it presents in the construction industry.
