The World Conference on Earthquake Engineering (WCEE) is a premier international event organized by the International Association for Earthquake Engineering (IAEE). Held every four years, the conference brings together researchers, engineers, and professionals to share the latest advancements in earthquake-resistant design, seismic hazard assessment, and disaster risk reduction. The WCEE series plays a key role in promoting global collaboration and knowledge exchange in the field of earthquake engineering.
The eighteenth edition of WCEE was held at Milan Italy from 30th June to 5th July 2024 at the Allianz Milano Convention Centre. It was hosted by the International Association of Earthquake Engineering and Italian National Association of Earthquake Engineering. With the pleasure of two accepted papers, a team of 3 from FISAT - Dr. Unni Kartha G, Dr. Parvathy R and Ms. Neeraja Nair arrived at the conference to witness one of the largest gatherings of Civil Engineers.
There were keynotes, parallel sessions and panel discussions happening all throughout the day, everyday of the conference. You could pick and choose what to explore every hour of the day. It also had its share of fun activities, cultural activities and networking events. Dr. Unni Kartha G presented the papers, and represented FISAT at this conference. The papers were the outcome of the M.Tech Theisis work of two students, Ms. H Aiswarya and Ms.Anangha. The papers can be accessed (here & here)
Eminent personalities in the field of Earthquake Engineering, were giving lectures, doing presentations, networking- sight unforgettable for any budding engineer. It was a pleasure to run into Mr. Ashraf Habibullah, the founder of CSI. He gave one of the most memorable and lively talks in the conference. During the breaks, we could observe and explore the stalls from major players in engineering and innovators who were building the next big thing in our field. It makes you realise the beauty and awe that is present in Civil Engineering. A truly unforgettable, once in a lifetime experience. As a Structural Engineer, I would say that we should strive to present in and experience at least once, an inspiring and motivating gathering like WCEE.
