Dr. Sumayya Naznin P H, faculty member form our department has achieved a significant milestone by successfully completing the 15-day Certification Course on Road Safety Audit and Related Aspects at CSIR-CRRI, New Delhi, organised in association with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRT&H) and the Indian Roads Congress (IRC).
Held from 13th to 28th May 2025, the programme offered structured, hands-on learning through lectures, field visits, and practical sessions covering global and Indian road safety scenarios, traffic engineering basics, crash data analysis, black spot identification, traffic control devices, geometric design safety, intersection design, Intelligent Transport Systems, and trauma care.
Participants also gained practical exposure by conducting Road Safety Audits at design, construction, and operational stages, including night-time audits, and presented detailed reports assessed by experts in the field.
Dr. Sumayya was recognised as the topper among the top six performers of the 15th batch and had the honour of presenting her final project to Prof. P. K. Sikdar, Chairman of the Research Council at CSIR-CRRI and former Director of CRRI, who is a highly respected authority in transportation engineering in India.
Her mentor during the course was Dr. S. Velmurugan, Chief Scientist and Head of Traffic Engineering Division, whose guidance and encouragement were very valuable in helping her getting this achievement.
This accomplishment reflects the commitment of the Department of Civil Engineering, FISAT, to equipping its faculty and students with advanced skills in road safety and sustainable transport planning.
Trainings like these reinforces the importance of practical exposure and lifelong learning in addressing India’s road safety challenges and building safer roads for all.
