Tensegrity Challenge!

Our Department organised an exciting hands-on competition titled “Build and Balance:
Tensegrity Challenge” on 4 March 2026.

Tensegrity structures is a structure where rigid pieces "float" in mid-air, held in place by a web of tight cables pulling them from every direction. It relies on a delicate balance between compression and tension elements.

The competition gave students with an opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical and creative way.  Students enthusiastically experimented with design concepts, demonstrating impressive problem-solving skills and collaborative spirit.

The event invited teams of four students to design and construct a tensegrity structure using simple materials while ensuring stability, balance, and aesthetic appeal. The event celebrated innovation, teamwork, and structural engineering principles.

The competition was organised jointly by ICI student chapter and ACE, the student association.  The student coordinators were Amen Ahamed and Devananda D. The faculty coordinators were Ms. Rinu J Achison and Mr. Sreereth S. The winners were awarded cash prizes, recognising their innovative approach and problem solving skills.

Congratulations to the prize winners:

First prize - Avanditha S, Ganga M, Alvina Clement, Krishna Naveen U - S6 CE
Second prize - Suryajith M U, Nikhil Laiju, Sreerag K P, Joyal Poly - S4 CEB
Third prize - Athul Krishna C A, Delnoy M Binoy, Ashik K A, Devanarayanan R - S4 CEA
