Our department hosted a technical talk on “Local & Global Projects with Real-Time Visualisation Using Virtual Reality (VR)” for the final year students on 10th March 2026. The session was organised with the objective of introducing students to modern technologies used in the civil engineering industry, particularly the application of Virtual Reality (VR) for project visualisation and planning.
The session was delivered by the team from SOLID CAD (CAD Training & Engineering Services), Kochi. During the session, the speakers explained how advanced digital tools and visualisation technologies are transforming the engineering and construction sectors globally. Students were introduced to several local and international civil engineering projects and were shown how these projects are designed, analysed, and presented using modern software tools.
The speakers also discussed the growing importance of Building Information Modelling (BIM), CAD technologies, and immersive visualisation tools in modern construction projects. The talk emphasised the need for civil engineering students to develop industry-relevant skills and stay updated with emerging technologies to remain competitive in the evolving engineering sector.
Following the technical session, a Residential Home Planning Competition was organised for the students. The competition aimed to encourage creativity, practical design thinking, and the application of civil engineering principles in residential building planning. Students actively participated in the event by presenting innovative and well-planned residential home designs that considered aspects such as space utilisation, functionality, aesthetics, and structural feasibility.
The submissions were evaluated and the best designs were selected, and the winners were announced during the closing session.
The session was highly interactive, and students actively participated by asking questions about career opportunities, software tools, and the practical implementation of VR in real-world projects. The discussion helped students gain a better understanding of how digital technologies are shaping the future of civil engineering.
