What happens when Civil Engineering students are given 15 bricks, some sand and water, and a challenge to build an arch?
Our student chapter of ICI and student association ACE jointly organized ARCHFORGE, an arch-building competition on 17 September 2026, that brought engineering concepts out of the classroom and into the hands of students. With limited materials and time, the participating teams had to construct an arch, putting their understanding of structural stability, geometry, load transfer, and construction techniques to the test. Every brick had to be carefully positioned, every decision had to be discussed, and every unexpected collapse became an opportunity to rethink and rebuild.

The competition created an atmosphere of creativity, excitement, and friendly rivalry. More than building an arch, the students experienced what it means to think, collaborate, experiment, and solve problems as engineers.
The First Prize was won by the team of students from S5 CEB - Safna Samad, Hrishika T K, Hrithika T K, Haridev Krishna P & Tharuni Paul Malayil
The Second Prize was won by the team from S3, Adwaith ES (S3 CEA), Shraeyas, Safa Shameer, Anusree & Rishika Biju (S3 CEB) and the Third Prize was shared by Muhammed Yaseen C K, Sreedev P, Madhav Nambiar, Kifah Dubair Ramlan, Muhammed Sharafan A S (S5 CEB) and Abin Joicy, Melbin Joseph, Sayid Ahzan Alhadi, Mohammed Safvan P, Mohammed Irfan (S3 CEB)
ARCHFORGE was more than a competition, it was a hands-on celebration of engineering creativity and teamwork. It reminded everyone that great structures can begin with the simplest of materials, provided there are big ideas behind them. Do not miss this video.
